Non-Alcoholic Food Pairings

Eat, Drink and Be Merry

We’re in the grips of the dog days of summer — those hot, steamy, sultry days between July 3 and August 11 — and while a cold beer on a hot day might sound tempting, the booze is definitely not worth the bloat. So we’re always on the lookout for ways to bring a little refreshing relief to our lazy days and backyard barbeques. Here, we share a few of our favorite non-alcoholic food and beverage pairings.

Chili-Lime-Pineapple Soda + Shrimp Ceviche

We love the combination of spicy, sweet and sparkling in this mock-margarita. And let’s be honest, while margs go with just about anything, we especially like to pair this recipe with shrimp ceviche. Between the creamy, fatty avocado, sweet shrimp and tangy citrus, it’s a great way to cool off.

Tea + Cheese

The next time you tuck into a charcuterie board, try tea instead of wine or spirits! Salty, smoky gouda goes great with oolong. Meanwhile, citrusy teas shine when paired with creamy, sweet goat cheese.

Lemonade + Burgers

A chargrilled burger and a cold can of beer are pretty standard summertime fare. But the next time you fire up the grill, try a lemonade instead. You’ll find the bitter acidity of a not-so-sweet lemonade is a refreshing change of pace! If you like bubbles, add a bit sparkling water for fizz without adding overpowering sweetness.

Spiritless + Grilled Stone Fruits

The vanilla, caramel and subtly smoky undertones of Spiritless Kentucky 74 pair well with grilled stone fruits like plums, peaches and apricots. Add a dollop of whipped cream, a bit of local honey and some toasted hazelnuts for texture, and you’ve got a light but indulgent-feeling dessert.
