Story:

The hibiscus flower, also called sorrel, invokes joy, legacy, resilience and passion in the African and African American community. Transport of enslaved Africans across the Atlantic began in the early 1500s; with these enslaved people came plants native to Africa, like the hibiscus. Like its ancestors, hibiscus has persevered throughout many dark moments.

Hibiscus has been found in African American kitchens for centuries; it has even been used as the celebratory sipper “red drink” at Juneteenth jubilees. In this way, it reminds us of our culture and some of the toughest times of our ancestors' lives. Combining hibiscus and Spiritless with ginger, another ingredient well-known in Africa, brings nothing but happiness no matter what time you choose to enjoy it.
